Beer and Hot Dogs

…taste better in Tacoma.

Beer List

So we’ve finally started up a email list about our beers. It started out as me updating certain customers about what was on tap. Now it’s an email sent out about what’s new on tap that day, what the current tap lineup is, what’s coming soon, who wants what, and other miscellaneous beer-y knowledge dropping (such as new breweries available in our distribution area, when to expect it, etc.). If you want on the Red Hot Beer Email Listy thinger, just send an email to delicioushotdogs at gmail dot com, and tell me you want on. If you get on and hate it, just send another email and we’ll take you off. Simple Simon.

There’s also more beer blogging stuff coming. I’ll let ya know…

The One True Pin…

New pin in at TRH, and I’ve been rocking this thing before prep, and after closing:

The Lord of the Rings pin took over Jack*Bot’s reign, and now sits alongside the ramp-o-licious White Water pin.

Fun as hell, good skill shots, and just plain cool. Lots of different play levels, and rippin’ fast if you time it right.

Here’s a handy-dandy map to help you get the most out of your 50ยข!!

Free Bicycle

You just gotta win it…

The PBR Bike that has hung in The Red Hot since we opened…the one we said we’d never give away…well…we’re giving it away.

IMG_1407.JPG

Our one-year anniversary is right around the corner (AUGUST 16TH), and the bike is probably the source of the most asked question of “when are you gonna give that bike away?”.

IMG_1409.JPG

It’s a single-speed cruiser with a coaster brake. Old school. It’s never been ridden, and the tires have only touched the ground inside the Red Hot where it was taken out of it’s shipping packaging. It will be given a once over by Red Hot pal Justin, one of the bike guys up at REI before you ride it away.

IMG_1410.JPG

You can enter your name in the random raffle at The Red Hot once per day up until Saturday August 16th. The drawing will take place that eve during our big-ass celebration (we’ll be open out in our back parking lot for outdoor seating, there’s gonna be a hot dog eating contest, we’ll have a special “AugustFest” cask beer made especially for us by Fish Brewing, and all kinds of other fun stuffs). You must be present to win, and you must use the bike. If you do not use it, you will be hunted down and flogged. Many a patron has salivated over owning this bad scoot, so we want to see it go to a good home.

WienerWeb Internets!

Yes. Wireless internet is now at The Red Hot. Super bas-ass K-Fry showed off his mad skillz and hooked up Teh WienerWeb v1.0 this morning, and it’s webbing, linking, http-ing, and netting as we speak. Ask your friendly RH Beertender for the super-secret decoder ring access code!

ALL YOUR WIENERS AND BEER ARE BELONG TO US!

Beer stuff, Tall Ships Vendor stuff, other stuff…

TS Vendor stuff:
So on my weekly trip to gather supplies, I noticed an overwhelming amount of product, especially produce, at my suppliers. “Tall Ships vendors” was what my produce monger stated. “One guy ordered 18 cases of apples, and only picked up 5. Another ordered 15 cases of cabbage, and didn’t even pick up one of ‘em. All festival vendors will have to pay up front from now on.” Crazy. I’m sure this waste won’t offset the boost Tall Ships brings our local economy, but still…kinda lame. A little blemish in the great white light of joy that is Tall Ships.

Beer stuff:
A few days ago, Belgian brew monster InBev bought out Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser, etc.) for a paltry 52 Billion dollars. This is now the hugest brewer in the universe. Anheuser-Busch InBev (crafty new name, eh?) will make Bud their flagship brew, but now holds a tremendous amount of domestic beer product. Hopefullly this will not equal rising prices due to diminished competition.

Speaking of diminished competition, local NW distributors Youngs-Columbia/Columbia Distributing just purchased Alaska Distributors on Monday night. Crazings. Again, boo to loss of competition in the local beer market. Rumor is the new name will be Youngs-Coho, but we’ll have to wait until October when the merger is put into motion.

Speaking of totally awesome fluke stuff happening in the beer world, Thursday will be the third time I’ve had a full Washington State brewer’s line-up on the taps. Here ’tis:

Elysian Immortal IPA (Seattle, WA)
Port Townsend Triple-Hopped Hop Diggity IPA one-off (Port Townsend, WA)
Snoqualmie Wildcat IPA (Snoqualmie, WA)
Diamond Knot Golden Ale (Mukilteo, WA)
Lazy Boy Amber (Everett, WA)
Dick’s Lava Rock Porter (Centralia, WA)
Maritime Pacific Portage Bay Pilsener (Seattle, WA)
Spire Mountain Pear Cider (Olympia, WA)

Today we’ll also recieve a first shipment of Elysian’s “Loser” strong pale ale 22oz. bombers that they brewed for Sub Pop’s 20th anniversary, with Mark Arm on the label. Insanely crazy-delicious beer, limited, and possibly on-tap soon.

We’ll be open tomorrow, too…

Since I was in construction during last year’s AOTA, I’m stoked to open for this year’s. I hope the intersection street painting at 6th and Pine is dope as it sounds. Our Air Conditioning and taps (Snoqualmie Wildcat IPA, Stone IPA, Diamond Knot XIPA, North Coast Scrimshaw Pilsner, Lazy Boy Amber, Spire & Wyder’s Pear Cider, Steamtrain Porter, Red Seal Pale Ale, and of course PBR and Rainier) will cool your bones during tomorrow’s toasty festival. We’ll have outdoor seating on the Ave for eating and sody-pop drinking, and for taking to-go orders for the kiddies. Inside, cooler heads shall prevail. Grownups only and biz as usual. Our ultra-affordable menu is in full effect to go easy on your clams so you’ze can buy up some arty-type stuffs. it’s gonna be a good time. Kick ass.

100 Different Beers

We did it.
Here’s the list (in alphabetical, not numerical) over at the very cool listology.com.

New Belgium’s Mothership Wit got the go ahead as the 100th different beer we’ve sold at The Red Hot since opening 11 months ago. Here’s what the New Belgiumites have to say about their delicious brew (perfect for the awesome weather we’re having right now):

Our first venture into organically-produced beer, Mothership Wit Organic Wheat Beer elevates the zesty Wit or White beers of Belgium. Our far-flung Beer Rangers affectionately refer to our Fort Collins brewery as the Mothership, a name that conjures images of earth shot from space and the interconnectivity of it all. Mothership Wit is brewed with wheat and barley malt, as well as coriander and orange peel spicing resulting in a balance of citrus and sour flavors held in suspension by a bright burst of carbonation.

To celebrate this little asterisk of achievement, we’re doing what our patrons enjoy most…being very affordable. $3.75 gets you a pint of Mothership in a fancy New Belgium globe glass, which you can keep. We’ll refill your glass for $2 until you or the keg is done. This keg will be on Saturday July 12th when we open.

Thanks to all our pals who enjoy our aggressive tap rotation, more great stuff is on the way!

If waterfront action is not your thing, and you’re looking for some funstuffs, we’re doing a little BBQ action of our own. We’re having a build-your-own-hot-dog-bar where you can experiment til your wiener loving heart is content (choose all-beef dog, polish sausage, cajun andouille, bratwurst, turkey dog, or one of our vegetarian sausages). Full self-serve condiment bar awaits you. Side your tubesteak masterpiece with potato salad, baked beans, and our cole slaw. Do it up for $5 a plate. Wash it all down with happy hour beer all day and all night ($3 a pint for micros, $2 a pint for PBR or Rainiers).

We’ll be giving away some beer swag, and some hot dog swag. Grand supreme bad-ass prize is a brand new Weber 18 1/2″ One-Touch charcoal grill. Get your own hot dog bbq action in full swing and become your own grill-master with this sweet rig.

Since Tall Ships is in full swing, you can also sample your tastebuds with Boundary Bay’s Tall Sips Blonde, made exclusively for the Tall Ships Festival. Highly limited, once it’s gone it’s gone. Very tasty.
