Wed 9/28: OktoBeerFest Night, 5pm

28 Sep

Harvest time makes us all a little bit giddy. Fresh Hop Beers, Harvest Beers, and Oktoberfest Beers all hit, and it is the time of year most people associate with Seasonal Beer changes. Tonight we mix it all up for a great time. We’ll spotlight some special beer, and some special food.

As many of you know, we’ve been growing and experimenting with our own hops for some time now. This year, with some help from our pals at 7 Seas Brewing, we’ve taken it another step forward…the birth of the TRH Estate Dry Hop Project IPA.

Here is what we’re putting on tap for tonight’s festivities:

Ayinger OktoberFest-Marzen
The Ayinger Brewery has been owned & operated by the same family since 1878. This award winning Marzen Lager has a rich, golden color, a slightly sweet, malty nose, with medium to big body & alcohol. The soft dryness is from the long maturation. World renowned Festival Beer.

Veltins Pilsner
Veltins Brauerei has been brewing since 1824. It is still independent & family owned, and still adheres to the Reinheitsgebot Purity Law from 1516. In the North German tradition, Veltins uses a generous amount of hops from the Hallertau region of Bavaria. Regarded as one of the finest examples of a German Pilsner.

Bayreuther Bierbrauerei Zwick’l Kellerbier
The brewery was started in the small Franconian village of Bayreuth in North Bavaria in 1857. In 1872 the brewery went public and sold shares to the towns people. The town of Bayreuth owns Bayreuther and they are proud of it. The Bayreuther Zwick’l is a classic example of a Bavarian Kellerbier, a unfiltered lager that is aged with wood & lagered longer than a typical helles lager. Copper in color, the beer pours with a creamy white head and finishes clean & crisp. Traditionally saved & drank by the brewmaster only, the Zwick’l is one of the only beers of its kind being imported.

7 Seas Hop Prophet
A 100% ‘wet’ hop ale utilizing Amarillo and Centennial varieties that go from vine to kettle within hours. Exclusively brewed with wet hops at a rate of over 7 pounds per barrel (31gal) of beer, the Hop Prophet yields an aroma of fresh citrus zest followed by a delicate, yet pronounced juicy bitterness. A blend of domestic Pale Ale malt, British Marris Otter malt, and a touch of crystal malt, contribute a clean, off-dry mouthfeel with subtle notes of honey and melon fruit.

7 Seas / The Red Hot Estate Grown Hops dry-hop Project IPA
Literally grown right outside our backdoor, our own “Estate Grown” hops (Centennial & Chinook varities) were taken to 7 Seas Brewing on September 22nd and added to a keg of Rude Parrot IPA. This dry hopped version is the result. Only one keg exists, and when it’s gone, it’s gone.

And in addition to our regular menu, you can try the following special treats:

The Bismarck: A 1/3 lb bratwurst sausage served in a pretzel roll, with your choice of stone ground mustard or curried ketchup, topped with our own cider braised sauerkraut.

Landjaeger: Meaning “country hunter”, this is a spicy, dried sausage, a popular snack in Southern Germany & Switzerland. Served with stone ground mustard.

Pretzel: Baked fresh this morning by our pals at Hess German Bakery, this is the best pretzel in the Northwest. Served with stone ground mustard.

The beers and special additional menu get the night started off at 5pm. We’ll have some prizes and giveaways throughout, and good time SHALL ensue. Specialty food items and beers are limited, and only available while supplies last! See you tonight!

Sun 7/10: Art on the Ave; Beer Garden and Grill Action, 11am

8 Jul

This Sunday, right outside our front door, is 6th Avenue’s 13th annual street festival, Art On The Ave. They’ll shut down car traffic to make room for people roaming the Ave, artist vendor booths, and good times, which always prevail at this annual event. This year they even converted the old vacant church into a movie house featuring locally-made films.

We’ll be shutting down our bar kitchen, pulling all the menus, moving things out back, and firing up the TRH Grill for a little flame-kissed meat action. Our famous hot dogs, bratwurst, kielbasa, and andouille will hit the grill (also with grilled onions and our cider-braised sauerkraut), everything flat rated at $4, you dress your own creation.

Outdoor seating will abound, and we’ll be pouring a grip of Washington-made brews at our outside taps to accompany your sunshine-filled afternoon: Schooner Exact 3-Grid IPA, Schooner Exact Gateway Golden, Two Beers Brewing Persnickety Pale, Two Beers Brewing Immersion Amber, and 7 Seas Rude Parrot IPA.

You can also park it inside and soak up some A/C, as we’ll still be pouring from all 15 taps inside as well. Beer Garden and Grill shut down at 9pm, so late night hunger mongers take heed. Art On The Ave is always a blast, hopefully we’ll see your faces there!

Wed 4/6: Chuckanut Brewing Meet the Brewers Night & “The Cowboy Dog” Special

5 Apr

Chuckanut Brewing, headed up by NW Brewing Pioneers/Legends Will and Mari Kemper, has in a short time amassed many medal-winning beers, but also snagged the “America’s Best Small Brew Pub” and “Best Small Brew Pub” titles at the 2009 Great American Beer Festival, one short year after opening their doors.

Will has served as brewmaster for Thomas Kemper Brewing (Poulsbo, WA), Aviator Ales (Seattle, WA), Norwester Brewing (Portland, OR), Mile High Brewing (Denver, CO), and Dock Street Brewing (Philadelphia, PA). Internationally, Will and Mari started the first two Sierra Madre Brewpubs in Monterrey, Mexico, and also started the first brewpub/craft brewery in Istanbul, Turkey. The list of achievements could go on and on, but what sticks out in my mind is after meeting both of them a handful of times, they are, as we like to say, good people. On Wednesday night, we’ll have 4 of Chuckanut’s delicious offerings on tap; British IPA, Pilsner, Kolsch, and Export Stout. Will and Mari will be on hand to talk shop and enjoy a great night out in Tacoma with their amazing beers.

To further the awesomeness of the middle of the week, we are unleashing a one-day-only special hot dog, “The Cowboy Dog”. Take one of our all-beef hot dogs, top with onions, bacon, and BBQ Baked Beans infused with Big Sky’s Cowboy Coffee Porter. This one is available when we open the doors Wednesday morning, and goes until the chuck wagon runs dry.

On Wednesday, September 1st, starting at 6pm, we’ll be having a little hootenanny. New Belgium and The Red Hot Bike-In Movie. Beer Garden, outdoor movie, and giving away a suave set of wheels.

It’s been hanging on our wall for almost three years now. I gave it a test drive in front of my house when it was delivered, and thats it. Brand new. It’s a 2007 or 2008 Felt, numbered frame New Belgium Cruiser Bike, with coaster brake, single-speed, rear and front racks, and powder coated frame. Red.

You can enter once a day at TRH, and NO ENTRIES DAY OF DRAWING. We’ll fire up the beer garden around 6pm (New Belgium delights such as 1554, Hoptoberfest, Ranger IPA, Erics Ale, and Blue Paddle Pilsner will be there to indulge your beery desires), start the movie (most requests so far are for Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure) around 7:30-ish, and raffle off the mighty cruiser after the flick. NBB bike bells and tire patch kits will be being tossed about freely, we’ll do the t-shirt thing, and it will be a fantasticly fun way to get over the hump o’ the week.

Two Events Today (Wed, May 19)

19 May

Today, we have a double-header of beery goodness on deck.

First up, starting from noon to 2pm, is a Meet & Greet/Lunch with Tomme Arthur, he of Port Brewing and The Lost Abbey fame. Tomme is responsible for some of the most imaginative and complex beers on the market today. We’ll feature Port Brewing HOP-15 and The Lost Abbey Angel’s Share on draft. Meet the man, drink his wares. Ask him all those weird beer geek questions that have been itching in your brain. NOON TO 2PM, WED MAY 19

What was supposed to be the first outdoor beer garden of the year got the kibosh by Mother Nature, so we’re battening down the hatches and retreating indoors for this event. 8:30 pm is the start of American Flyers, one of the classic bike flicks of all time. Kevin Costner and Ted Danson in spandex…really, what more could you ask for? Bikey pals New Belgium Brewing help The Red Hot in presenting this for celebration of Bike Month. Expect all the two-wheeled gifties of yore (tire patch kits, head tube badges, etc), prizes, and Ranger IPA, Blue Paddle Pils, Fat Tire Amber, and Lips of Faith Belgian Blonde all on tap. Generally, what we normally do in these parts when the weather turns south…have a party. NBB BEERS GO ONLINE @5PM, FLICK @8:30PM.
